Who here cracks their knuckles? I do so religiously about every 30-60 minutes. I don't remember if it's considered bad for your hands, but I still do it. Been doing it for probably a decade now. Hands, neck, back, chest, ect. Is it scientifically proven that it's bad or good? I have never looked into it before. (Mature discussion please) |

It's been proven many times that cracking your knuckles does absolutely nothing. And I do it a lot aswell, usually when I'm bored. |

I do this a lot. I'm not sure on whether it has any detrimental effects on your bones, but I have noticed that over time, it's become easier to crack my joints. Whereas at one time one crack would last for a few hours before I could do it again, I'm pretty sure I can crack them every 20 minutes or so, maybe less. So it's definitely done something, whether that's a negative impact, I don't know. But yeah, I probably do this collectively over a hundred times a day, and even as I think about it, that seems like a low estimate. |

"Then you've got the chance to do better next time." "Next time?" "Course. Doing better next time. That's what life is." | |

Yep, been doing it since I was 13-14 years of age. That's coming in on 15 years now. I get stiff very quickly, so cracking my knuckles helps loosen up. That's the main reason I do it. |

That's not true. It's been proven, empirically, to be one of the most annoying things a person can possibly do. Don't believe me? The Surgeon General had this to say of the matter. |

Just cracked my knuckles after reading this thread. I'm not sure if there are any negative repercussions, but I really hope not because I do it all of the time.

It might just be habit but I feel like my hands get kinda stiff if I don't do it. I think it's actually been proven that it makes your hands more flexible, the arthritis thing is probably a myth created by people who find it annoying or they just assumed even though a large amount of people get arthritis no matter what.My fingers definitely seem quite flexible my girlfriend always tries to bend them back to annoy me but can never get them far enough back to hurt

I don't really do it much and my hands rarely get very stiff. Perhaps there's a link between cracking knuckles and increased stiffness. It might be taxing on the joints. |
